Real time balancing consists of ancilliary services and balancing power market. Balancing Power Market (BPM) provides reserve capacity that can be online within 15 minutes at the latest to sustain real time balancing for System Operator. Frequency control and demand control services are ensured through the ancilliary services.

In real time there can be deviations in generation and consumption amounts even though Market Operator provides a balanced market through Day Ahead Market and Intraday Market to the System Operator. For instance, a power plant’s failure or immediate rump up of a big consumption facility unbalances the system. In such cases, National Load Dispatch Center (NLPC) tries to sustain system balance by means of offers submitted to BPM.

• All BPM participants are obliged to submit their available generation capacity
• Balancing units that enable to take minimum of 10 MW up or down regulation within 15 minutes are obliged to participate in BPM.
